Not knowing where you’re going or what God is up to can be a frustrating experience. This is the place that many people across the country find themselves right in the midst of COVID-19.
- Jobs are being lost
- Families are struggling to make ends meet
- Uncertainty is in the atmosphere
- Churches are trying to figure out when they’ll be able to meet again
To be real about it, no one really knows when all of this will all be over.
But I come by to let you know that despite everything that’s going on – there is still something to shout about!
Our God is sovereign – meaning He can do whatever He wants – whenever He wants. Our job as believers is to trust him.
This leads me to Psalm 23. It’s a familiar Psalm:
- The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
2. He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
3. He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
4. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
6. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.
Here we find in Psalm 23, David who has experienced trials and tribulations in his life, describing God as a dependable guide – one that can be trusted to lead His sheep to a better place.
The picture painted in the text is God as a loving shepherd. David uses this illustration because of his experience tending sheep.
He says the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside still waters.
My message for you today is just like David illustrates in Psalm 23, although you might not understand what’s going on in your life, God is leading you to green pastures – that’s a place of plenty. That’s something to shout about!
I grew up on a farm in Mississippi where we raised cattle. In the summer it would often get hot and dry and our cows would always start searching for green, lush grass and a pond or some type of water that was in good supply.
Just as God leads sheep and cattle to green pastures, God is leading you to your place of green pastures – your place of plenty.
The journey may sometimes feel bumpy, it may feel uncertain while on the journey, but the one thing that you can be sure of is that God is leading you to a place that is better than where you are right now.
…That right there is enough to shout about!
The New Testament describes God as the Good Shepherd, The Great Shepherd, The Chief Shepherd.
On today, regardless of what you’re going through, be confident in knowing that God knows the way to your green pastures and He knows the way to still waters – the place of calm, a place that’s free of stress, a place of stability and a place of happiness.
If you believe this my friend, despite your circumstances, you still have something to shout about.
