COVID-19: God’s Recipe for Anxiety & Worry

The United States is now under a National Emergency due to the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19.

  • The NBA has shut down
  • The NCAA March Madness tournament has shut down…

Major League Baseball, golf, many movie theaters, schools, EVEN churches have now shut down and with all of this going on – many people across the nation and the world are becoming so anxious and worried that they are on the brink of shutting down too.

This new virus is real and the end – nobody knows for sure.

And if you’re a parent or care for others, this new term – social distancing is a threat to jobs and having the ability to pay bills and put food on the table. Basic necessities are now a major concern for so many people.

But I want to bring you a bit of good news that God has given us a recipe for overcoming anxiety and worry.

It’s a powerful verse found in Philippians 4:6-7, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

I like it where it says, “Make your requests be made known to God.”

The word Requests has an “s” at the end so it means that you can ask God for multiple things – not just one. But it doesn’t stop there. It says “the peace of God” will come into your life.

So in essence, you can find peace in telling God what you need and talking to Him about what you’re worried about.

But I also want to encourage you to take this free time that God has allowed to put things into perspective for your life.

Ask yourself, “What could I accomplish with this newfound free time that I have?”

With so many things shut down, many of us are now forced to work from home or be at home until this pandemic passes over.

  • This could be the time in which you fill out that application for school that you’ve been thinking about.
  • It could be the time for you to redo your resume so you can apply for that job you’ve been eying.
  • It could be the time to write that business plan.

Whatever time it is for you, please know that this is a great time to spend more time with God so that you know clearly what He wants you to do.
